Between fashion, culture and heritage

NAIDOC Week is one of the most significant events in the Australian calendar, celebrating the history, culture and contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Australian society.

For its 50th edition, and with the theme “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy”, NAIDOC celebrates young Indigenous leaders who are advancing their culture with determination and pride.

It was in this context that Paris, in the middle of Fashion Week, hosted an exceptional celebration: Australian designer Grace Lillian Lee, of First Nations descent, presented her very first haute couture collection, "The Guardians," in the immersive space of 229LAB.

Her intimate and ceremonial performance captivated the audience, blending history, design, and transmission through eight sculptural pieces inspired by her Far North Queensland and Torres Strait Island heritage. A powerful continuation of her exhibition. The Dream Weaver: Guardians of Grace, recently added to the collections of the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art.
