Livestock is essential for the food security of 1.3 billion people in developing countries. It faces the challenge of increasing production while preserving natural resources, different forms of agriculture, and the farmers who depend on them.
Livestock and sustainable development in the Indian Ocean
The projects that caught our attention perfectly combine the four pillars of sustainable development:
economic, social, environmental and institutional.
"éLEVAGES SANS FRONTIERES"
"Elevages sans frontières" is committed to food security and the autonomy of farming families. The association supports and trains vulnerable farmers as a priority. The development of livestock farming allows these families to enrich their diet, particularly that of their children, to generate regular income, to diversify their activities and to mitigate the impact of economic and climatic risks.
AVSF is recognized in Madagascar for its support for livestock breeding and animal health services. More than 250 trained community auxiliaries work with 30,000 families. In 2018, a certification framework for these agents was developed and will soon be applied throughout the territory.
