TOURISMER enhances the visibility of the cultural landscape of the Indian Ocean, aiming to position the region as one that harmoniously blends respect for traditional practices with a commitment to cultural innovation.
The arts in the Indian Ocean are very rich and varied, reflecting the cultural diversity of the countries and islands that surround it. There are African, Asian, European and indigenous influences, resulting in unique art forms.
Among the visual arts, painting and sculpture are prominent, with artists drawing inspiration from local seascapes, flora and fauna. Textiles, such as sarongs and batiks, are also popular, often decorated with colourful and symbolic patterns.
Music and dance play a vital role in Indian Ocean culture. A variety of styles, from African rhythms to Indian and Malagasy influences, blend to create vibrant and captivating performances.
